Born 1954 in Calcutta, India. Grown up in rural greens and among folk peoples. After schooling Tapan went to the Govt. Art College in Calcutta for a 5 year diploma course, and completed in 1975. As a field investigator of a Language Survey conducted by the University of Calcutta, he toured the Indian state of West Bengal for 3years. Joined in Government School as an Art Teacher in 1981 and still continuing in this profession.
Tapan participated in an exhibition of State Academy in 1982. But, his first solo exhibition of paintings was held at the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta, in 1987. Outside West Bengal, his first solo exhibition of paintings took place at the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, in October 2003. Till date, Tapan has participated in 24 Group Exhibition and held 10 solo shows.
Tapan’s goal in creating art is to enhance the peace, powerful beauty and soul-searching around us. He is inspired to capture images that will bring serenity or wonder, remind you of a perfect moment in the endless span of time, or show you something new that you may not have seen before, to ignite your craving for exploration.
The world itself with all its diversity moves me to capture its beauty and mood forever on film or any other media available at the very time.
Tapan has developed an appreciation for the rural life in my country.
